Thinking about going solar? The clock is ticking.
The Residential Clean Energy Credit (RCEC) — a federal tax credit worth 30% of your solar installation costs — is set to expire at the end of 2025. If you’ve been considering solar panels or other renewable energy upgrades, now is the time to act.
What Is the Residential Clean Energy Credit?
The RCEC is a non-refundable federal tax credit equal to 30% of the cost of qualified clean energy systems, such as:
Solar electric panels
Solar water heaters
Geothermal heat pumps
Small wind energy systems
This credit applies to primary and secondary residences, as well as rental properties occupied by the taxpayer. (Note: Landlords who do not reside in the property are not eligible.)
What’s New?
Under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the RCEC now officially expires on December 31, 2025.
Why You Shouldn’t Wait
Installing a clean energy system is a multi-step process that includes evaluation, permitting, installation, and inspection. This can take several months. To claim the credit, your system must be placed in service by December 31, 2025—not just purchased or under contract.
And while the RCEC is non-refundable, unused portions can be carried forward to reduce your taxes in future years.
Don’t wait until it’s too late—secure your solar tax credit before it disappears. Let’s make 2025 the year your home works smarter (and saves more).
